![]() PROGRAM SCOPE: CEROS supports research and technical development projects which are intended to produce measurable results in 6 to 12 months. The CEROS research program is structured to include projects that contain options for funding continuations or transitions. CEROS selects projects for funding based on priorities that are issued in the research solicitations, emphasizing a focus on near-term results and tangible deliverables. Because CEROS is funded through annual appropriations, funding for successive years is not assured so optional or successive phases of funded projects must repeat the competitive evaluation cycle accordingly. Funding for one year does not assure funding in successive years. In addition to the R&D projects and contract management under the Core program, CEROS gives high priority to communication among companies and other enterprises interested in technology development germane to the CEROS mission. This priority is reflected in the CEROS Outreach Program and activities in support of Technology Development and Transfer under the Technology Broker function. Since 1993, the CEROS program has supported a variety of advanced ocean technology development projects. These projects have produced tangible results and products for the Department of Defense (DoD), unique advanced capabilities, commercial products, and potential breakthrough products for future development. Fourteen patents and forty-eight technical publications have resulted directly from CEROS-supported projects. The program has also helped create and sustain technical development and jobs in Hawaii. The CEROS program supports private sector development augmented by academic expertise in Hawaii to ensure timely response to DoD requirements and commercialization of suitable results. CEROS encourages university collaboration and participation in projects as subcontractors to commercial entities that are capable of doing business in Hawaii.
